I’m delighted that my new book is included in Marin magazine’s “Local Page Turners” column for August!

Zack Ruskin writes: You’re sure to find entertainment and illumination in this collection of 21 true stories from noted travel writer Laurie McAndish King. Whether she’s eating a crocodile, tracking down a 2,500-year-old tooth in Sri Lanka or talking aliens with a SETI astrophysicist, King reminds us that the world is far weirder and more amazing than we sometimes imagine.

I love Zack’s characterization: Your Crocodile has Arrived reminds us that the world is far weirder and more amazing than we sometimes imagine.

As an author, I’m sometimes too close to my work to be able to describe it, and Zack did a terrific job of distilling what makes these stories so special. They’re about a three-legged elephant, flying saucers, 20-foot earthworms, flightless birds, the poetry that created a museum, a 2,500-year-old tooth, soup-filled dumplings, haggis (enough said), and a mermaid. And they’re about the people who devote their lives to preserving ephemera and saving endangered species. I love these stories and want to share them with the world!

The launch party is at 7:00 on Saturday, August 19th at Book Passage in Corte Madera. You’re invited to join us there!
