cautiontapeI’ll be participating on a panel about self-publishing at the Book Passage Mystery Writers Conference on Friday, July 26th, 2013. Other panelists are:

  • Linda Watanabe McFerrin, author, writing instructor, mentor to many, and founder of Left Coast Writers. Linda’s many books have been both published by traditional publishing companies and self-published.
  • Lowry McFerrin, printer with expertise in short runs and micro-publishing, which are ideal for self-published authors.
  • Jim Shubin, the Book Alchemist. Jim specializes in design, layout, and production of both traditional (paper) and ebooks.

We’ll discuss the relative pros and cons of short-run, print-on-demand, and e-book production; simple things you can do to ensure that your book’s look and feel reflect the care and professionalism you put into it; how to avoid the most common mistakes self-published authors make; and much more. The event is open to all participants in the conference, and we’ll provide helpful handouts.
